Julian Sanchez owns a bike shop on 1619 Main street in Philomath Oregon. Julian is a fun easy going guy who will tell you the best trails around to ride on. If your bike needs to be repaired or if you're looking to start biking as a hobby, he's the guy to go to. He always adjusts the bikes specific to each person to ensure that you are doing the least amount of work while riding your bike. In his free time he likes to ride his motorcycle around new areas and take photos of landscapes. He actually went to school for photography for a while, but he wouldn't trade his shop for anything.

LBCC's Smoking Policies Throughout the Years

Image: Tobacco.Stanford.Edu While walking towards Takena Hall before your day of classes you may have noticed a designated smoking area or two in the parking lot. Has it always been like this? Around 50 years ago there wasn’t such a thing as designated smoke areas. When you walked into a classroom there would be big glasses, wild hair, and puffs of smoke coming from students and teachers during lectures. In 1981, Oregon legislation passed the Indoor Clean Air Act which prohibited smoking inside public buildings. This was to protect non-smokers from second-hand smoke. In 2009, the Indoor Clean Air Act had some modifications that included banning smoking within 10 feet of public doorways. After this ban, colleges everywhere had to make arrangements for the students who partake in smoking. “They [Linn County Department of Health] came out here and they told us, ‘If we find cigarette butts anywhere close to your doors, you’re going to get cited.’” said Marcene Olson, Director of ...

If you find yourself on your way on the scenic drive of Highway 34 to the coast, you may have passed through the small town known as Alsea, Oregon. In this town you can find the Mercantile which also owns this gas station that has been around for over 60 years. Stop and grab some gas; and while you’re at it pick up some snacks for your beach trip at the Mercantile. Gracie Hildebrand has lived in Alsea, Oregon for 10 years and is currently studying nursing at LBCC. Elk season opened November 16th and Gracie has been out almost every morning at an attempt to tag one. She’s been hunting for since she was 9 years old and isn’t slowing down anytime soon!
